He is so deluded and crazed he thinks Americas friends and allies are cheating him and the U.S. Trump’s behaviour is who out of the range of normal. His on again and off again tariff wars with America’s closest allies is unprecedented in the modern technological age.
Donald Trump is A Psycho President. A complete Wack Job. A Convicted Felon. A traitor to America who incited the first attack on the US capitol by a losing Presidential Candidate when he tried to hang on to power through a coup d’etat. Nothing conveys what a dangerous killer President Trump is than this re-working of Talking Heads “Psycho Killer” Trump is unquestionably a Psycho and if not stopped and removed from office he will become an International Killer !
A sane President who has concerns about the trading relationship between U.S. Canada and Mexico would do what any other sane President would. Set up a meeting and put the American grievances on the table for negotiations. Intead Trump goes apeshit crazy. What does he hope to accomplish by smashing up the china shop?
A less mentally impaired Trump did just that in 2018. He convened a summit between Canada, Mexico and the U.S. to fix what he thought was unfair. As a result a new agreement was signed that year. Now 7 years later a clearly demented Trump doesn’t even appear to acknowledge that he signed a new trade deal.
What does Trump gain by being a lunatic? Is he doing the job the was elected to do and improve the lives of Americans. Or is he hurting Americans who will have to pay more for goods because Trump is too stupid or delusional about how tariffs work? And importantly that he has lost all acceptable norms of behaviour for rationally solving disputes between neighbours. Especially neighbours who are your greatest allies.
Mainstream American Media sadly is not calling out Trump, the way they did Joe Biden after his disastrous debate performance. Oh, that is Trump just being Trump. The power of a weird celebrity who mesmerized viewers on TV into believing he is America’s greatest genius.
Americans are openly demonstrating their anger and fury at the destructive first 60 days of Trump 2. They are demonstrating against the Elon Musk – Doge heartless chopping of social security programs, mass firings at several government departments including demolitioning the Department of Education. Anger is also boiling over unto billionaire Musk and his failing car company Tesla. Trump is making these cuts so can then give massive tax cuts to billionaires.
One way to keep the focus on Trump’s dangerous state of mind for someone to file a community mental health form in Florida Washington DC or NY and swear out affidavit that Trump is a threat to the American people and indeed the people of the world. Even if it ultimately gets rejected by mental health authorities the publicity of the attempt to put him into a 72 hour involuntary hospitalization for observation and treatment will send a strong message.
The Mental Hygiene Warrant is an emergency application, and the proceedings are confidential. The Mental Hygiene Court is where people (family member, peace officer, agency, or any concern citizen) petition to have a person brought before a judge to determine if they need psychiatric help. Each state has its own requirements.
Walking is beneficial to our physical and mental health. There is no better time to explore nature by heading to your local natural area and taking in the fall colours. Walking around your neighbourhood also can be quite colourful, too.
This October I headed for walks along the Bruce Trail on the Niagara Escarpment in Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. I also took walks in Barrie, Ontario, along Highway 26 and in the Terra Cotta Conservation Area west of Brampton, Ontario.
Some of the best fall colours can be seen just walking around the neighbourhood where you can watch those familiar maples and oaks slow grow redder as the fall progresses.
Here are some of the photos I took from around my neighbourhood in Niagara Falls, Ontario and walks on the nearby Bruce Trail.
Enjoy the photos of fall near my neighbourhood in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Everyone now is finally aware of how bad Trump stinks.
I first became aware that Trump was a piece of shit back in the 1980s when I was a journalism student in Toronto and avidly read Wayne Barrett’s investigations into the Trump Crime empire in the Village Voice.
Here is my comedy video Trump Ohhh! That Smell I just posted to YouTube and TikTok.
The Trump Family is steeped in criminal activity. His grandfather Friedrich Drumpf (who changed it to Trump) ran brothels in Washington State and the Yukon. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) chased him out of the Yukon in 1899 for being a whore master, By the way, Grandpa Trump was a German immigrant. who escaped to the US to evade the German draft.
Trump’s father Fred Trump was a KKK, Hitler-loving crook who bilked funds for US Veterans Housing during WW2 and after to create his filthy wealth. Daddy Trump was a virulent racist who discriminated against blacks. This fact was immortalized by Woody Guthrie in his song Ain’t Got No Home/Old Man Trump.
In the 1970s Old man Trump and his stinking son Donald took US Housing Dept. money meant for housing designed for all and blocked black applicants from renting. They were charged with housing discrimination.
In the 1980s The Diaper Don bullied New York politicians. He failed miserably in business with 5 bankruptcies in the 1990s and 2000s.
But thanks to the Apprentice and the reality TV show craze of the 2000s Trump was able to con Americans into believing he was a business genius. Riding that massive deception all the way to a narrow win in the 2016 Presidential elections. Trump actually lost the popular vote by over 3 million to Hillary Clinton.
Little did viewers realize that Trump often pooped his pants on The Apprentice and filming had to stop so his staff could wipe his ass and change his diapers.
Former staffer on The Apprentice, Noel Casler, reveals …

“The diapers are not a joke. It depends, you know, Diaper Don is trending, but it’s based on reality. He would often soil himself on the …”
Trump’s mischief and criminality continued after he lost the 2020 election resoundingly to Joe Biden. Trump launched a coup to unseat Biden which resulted in 5 deaths when his terrorists in the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers attacked the nation’s Capitol and threatened to Hang Mike Pence if he didn’t reject Biden’s certification and open the way for Trump to Steal the election.
Today the unrepentant criminal is still creating a stink!
He is the GOP favorite to be the 2024 Presidential Candidate despite facing four major indictments for fomenting the insurrection, stealing top secret documents, trying to overturn the Georgia Results, and illegally paying off porn star Stormie Daniels.
Colorado and Maine have declared they cannot run in their states because he started an insurrection on January 6, 2021. The 14th Amendment section 3 prohibits Officers of the US who tried to overthrow the American government from ever running again. Michigan and California said Trump can remain on the ballot for the primaries for now.
The Supreme Court will ultimately have to rule on the matter.
But more important. Lately, the truth about Trump is finally out after years of cover-ups.
Trump stinks literally.
Do Americans really want a President who soils his depends and stinks like poo to represent them on the world stage?
I was a Halloween Monster at Canada’s Wonderland. For three nights. As the Northern Blog’s investigative reporter, I took on a job that basically pays actors dressed up as monsters to scare the crap out of people who pay good money to be scared.
I have to say it was a very spooky experience.
I was hired to lurk in the dark shadows of a twisting cornfield maze in Canada’s most famous amusement park to scare the living daylights out of paying customers who craved to be horrified around Halloween time
The creation of a cornstalker monster begins with blood splattered costume and makeup. Photo: Frank Giorno
Canada’s Wonderlands’ Halloween Haunt provides a variety of frightening experiences late September to October 29th. Hundreds of monsters were unleashed upon the park. For the price of admission guests can be frightened in seven mazes, five scare zones, watch six sinister shows, and ride all their favourite roller coasters in the dark.
I was assigned to be a corn stalker in the corn maze. After putting on my costume which consisted of torn, shredded shirt and shredded jeans I went to make up and had my face sprinkled with red liquid resembling blood, scar lines were added. The fake blood was sprayed on my shirt and jeans. I was ready for the haunting.
Along with the other corn stalkers we proceeded to our haunting positions in the maze and waited for to scare the living daylights out of the thrill seekers. The maze was really creepy. Dimly lit. With many twists and turns. Eerie music droned over muffled with incomprehensible groans, gibberish. Every twist of the maze contained frightening surprises. A dangling skeleton in on corner. A monster dummy swinging from a noose from an adjacent tree.
Halloween can be a most frightening experience. Photo by Frank Giorno
I kept myself hidden by leaning against the tall corn stalks in the twisting, dimly lit maze. Like in the movie Children of the Corn, the maze was dotted with scary corn stalkers – blood splattered men and women from the entrance through the approximately 50 metre maze.
I was situated at the final third of the maze just prior to the exit.
I could hear them approaching. Chatting, laughing as they walked eagerly anticipating what might befall them.
I timed my sudden leaps and growling to appear at the last second as they walked by. Jumping out of the dark, growling, howling, shouting and acting menacingly to satisfy their lust for that frightening sensation.
This went on for 5 hrs from 7 p.m. to midnight. A monster has to be inventive over the course of the five hours of plying our trade. The maze was festooned with skeletons, bloody clothing enmeshed into the tall cornstalks. Every twist and turn along the path was filled with anticipation of horror.
The thrill seekers were in pairs, groups of three, four and more. The crowd was mostly groups of friends, teenage boys and girls. There were couples and families including toddlers and children in strollers.I coordinated with one of the other corn stalkers to build up an unexpected fright. At times I would put on a semi-comical exaggerated monster act and as they chuckled past me thinking all was safe but then a monster woman leaped shrieking out of nowhere and the customers shrieked in horror at the unexpected danger. They lurched back with their eyes wide open, mouths gaping, fists held high against their chests.
As the customers strolled cautiously round the twisted maze the sounds of a chain saw coutld be heard. A deranged cornstalker with a hideous face stormed the cornfield. It was fueled by diesel and the strench of the fumes combined with the flesh curdling cutting sound created a forbidding atmosphere.
Moments later they broke out in laughter. That scary incident was what they came for. Some turned around and what to high-five us monsters, but monsters don’t do high-fives or fist pumps. We just growl and glare and go on our way scaring the next unsuspecting customers.
The children looked around with wide-eyed amazement. Hand held by a parent. Often, they would laugh and exclaim “you are not a monster.” Some were frightened but their parents reassured them that it was all for fun.
I tried to be more of Monster-Mash kind of monster for the little kids. It was a corn yard smash as the children giggled.
The course of the maze has attendants strategically located to assist any customer who needs help but also to remind the monsters that they must be in character and scary throughout the evening. No casual conversations with the customers, many who want to high-five or talk photos with the monsters. Those who are frightening are hired to be spooky and monstrous. But for those who want to walk through the scare-zones without being terrified, Canada’s Wonderland provides a please do not scare button to ward of us monsters.
But I never saw any the three nights I worked.
To become a monster I had to attend a group interview. During the interview we were asked to perform impromptu skits to display our monster capabilities and also to see if we can work well with other monsters.
Once I was hired, I attended an orientation course which instructed us on how to act monstrously. My instructed said the secret is to provide an internal narrative of your monster character. How did you become a monster? Why did you end up in the corn field? Why do you want to terrorize intruders?
I have to admit scaring people who want to be scared was fun. I would not otherwise act so monstrously. I am grateful for this experience.
After it was done, I looked up on Google why people enjoyed being scared to death and are willing to pay for it.
Some experts said people love experiencing fear and fright because it gives them a rush of adrenalin. Perhaps. I think people enjoy it because its fun! Like tumbling down a roller coaster at break-neck-speed.
Watch my cornstalker monster in action. Warning: Very Frightening Content. Please Use Caution When Viewing.
These next 10 years will be the last whiff of that population bulge historians call the Baby Boom Generation…an entity that started off with piles of idealism. Some achieved; Some clawed back with age hello civil rights and women’s right.
These old, grumpy boomers are hanging on today with unrivaled privilege…now this may be a generalization…but you have a bunch of old white guys, especially in the USA, and old white gals too embittered about what has transpired in their fantasy lives, and in the US many aging boomers voted for a guy who had no experience at all but was famous on TV — Shit4Brains Trump.

Which brings me to the a little known movie in the late 1960s called Wild in The Streets — the height of hippiedom for the Boomers.
Rotten Tomatoes describes Wild in the Streets as a:
A campy satire about a rock star/drug dealer who is elected president once the voting age has been lowered to fourteen. The title song was a big hit in the 60’s and the film itself was well-liked by many critics.
Max Frost (Christopher Jones), presidential candidate, in Wild in the Streets acknowledges, the crowd’s adoration. Courtesy American International.
IMDB describes Wild in the Streets as follows:
“A young man gains significant political influence as the leader of a counterculture rock band with his rallying cry of voting rights for teenagers.”
The connection to real life today is this: Like Max Frost the Rock Star/drug dealer in the quirky movie Wild in The Streets, Americans (albeit with less popular votes than Hillary) elected an aging boomer, Trump. with a fractured mind and morality whose only claim to fame was a failure as a businessman, but a genius on pretend TV which was ironically labelled reality TV.
Trump’s strategy like the political strategy of Wild in the Streets is to collect a band of disgruntled, angry members of society who feel the have been left out. Call this populism if you will or call it appeal to the mob.
Donald Trump, a boomer is the aging Max Frost…the KKK and Neo Nazis are Trumps troopers.
Trump may not have sold drugs…but the list of his criminality is long Trump U, violation of Fair Housing Laws, money laundering (this will come out soon), sexual assault.
Like Trump, Max Frost, in Wild in the Street was a criminal, a drug dealer. Trump is the first criminal ever elected to the US Presidency. Among his crimes was the fraud of Trump U. In New York State you have to be accredited to call yourself a University. And of course the tens of thousands of dollars he stole from those who ponied up the $35,000 enrollment fee. Oddly this criminal was never charged by law enforcement. He did settle a civil suit out of court. Courtesy of Mother Jones
Begone boomers and let younger people take over..No one over 60 should be president of the USA ever.
For the boomer generation Trump is one last kick at fantasy land.
Let it be quick and let more savvy youth take the reins. They are skilled at detecting twitter bullshit like boomers are not.
Until then Trumper’s troopers and angry old white guys will be a force. These are the last embers of baby boomerism. They are angry kids from Wild in the Streets.
A message to Boss Trump from Jack Nicholson – You Can’t Handle The Truth!
Trump you, and your bone spurred heels, just Can’t Handle the Truth!
Donald “Big Boss Man” Trump Can’t Handle the Truth…so he lies and lies and lies…so much so that he has set many of his pants on fire. Photo courtesy of Pinterest.
So you lie and lie and lie and lie and lie and lie. You lie so much you are starting to resemble a rug! Bad-a -boom.
You are such a liar that you have set numerous of your pants on fire! Badda bing!
You have had to order a supply of fresh, fire proof, Trump pants from Trump clothing manufacturers in Bangla Desh and China. Yep! Trump is lying when he tells you he will force American companies to manufacture in the US and create jobs.
Maybe for others, but not for Boss Trump. Gee Willy, just do as Boss Trump says and don’t worry about the the lying he does. OK? Don’t worry be happy!
Trump! Drain thyself.
Hey Big Boss Trump! Liar Liar your nose is longer than a telephone wire. Ba ba ba boom!
Let’s hear the truth about Big Bad, Mad Dog, Donald “The Lying Twit” Trump. Here is a classic by the Castaways that sums it up nicely.
And while Big Boss Trump is being such a wooly bully, attacking war hero John McCain, nice guy President Barack Obama, and straight talking Florida Congresswoman, Frederica Wilson ; weasely Republican senate majority leader Mitch McConnell; befuddled Attorney General Jeff Sessions; cool as a cumber Republican Senator Bob Corker and many, many, many more. A virtual cast of thousands bullied by President Wooly Bully Boss Trump.
Please add the names of others bullied, by the Wooly-Bully-in-Chief , Trump the Grump right here.
In fact, Big Boss Trump is such a bully, that being his best friend won’t prevent him from bullying you or even firing you, right Mooch? Right Dr. Evil Steve Bannon? Right Paul Manafort, Mr. Russia! Right, Roger Stone-face, international man of mischief! Right Corey Lewandowski! Right, Sean Spicer! Right, right, right, right,
Might as well get the scoop about bullying from….are you kidding me? First Lady Melania Trump is making anti-bullying her life’s calling. Poor gal obviously has gotten first hand, eh? But, give me a friggin break here.
Forget Melania, let’s go with the classic bully song from Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs — Wooly Bully!
Uno, dos, tres, quatro! Holy Shit! Mexicans and Muslim extremists all rolled into one, Mr. Trump, oh no!
Such great sorrow in America…deepest sympathy to all those who died and their families in this unbearably senseless and preventable tragedy.
This photo from Rolling Stone Magazine’s coverage of the Las Vegas second amendment murders depicts the terror concert goers experienced during the largest massacre of Americans by a mass murderer. Photo courtesy of Rolling Stone Magazine
These 58 deaths in Las Vegas should be known as murder by 2nd amendment. For it was the shooters 2nd amendment rights that permitted the right to purchase an arsenal of weapons to slay 58 Americans. Imagine of those 58 deaths occurred at the US embassy over sees, what the reaction would be?
Think about the majority Republican Congress and the strident comments they would be making about stopping terrorism, restricting immigration, building a way, curtailing people’s civil liberties by torturing those responsible and tapping phones and spying on social media.
Sadly, the cowards in the Republican party will act sad and decry the crime, but the will stand by the National Rifle Associations distorted and incorrect view of what the second amendment says about who may own guns.
The 58 murders in Las Vegas and the shootings every where in the United States really are brought to you by the NRA and their 40 year record of helping people like Steve Paddock, the Las Vegas shooter, obtain an arsenal of deadly weapons by fraudulently asserting everyone’s right to guns of all sorts including rapid fire machine guns and military assault rifles.
Thanks to the NRA instead of a well regulated system of gun purchases, you have total gun anarchy.
And this is despite recent polling showing that Americans overwhelmingly want some form of control on guns to end gun anarchy that NRA has promoted and bullied lawmakers into achieving.
Donald Trump supports NRA absolute right to guns. It is no coincidence that since this deadly and divisive President assumed centre stage there have been at least four or more deadly shootings since June 2016.
In fact, since Trump took over the presidency in January, 2017 there have been 273 mass shootings already in 275 days according to the Gun Violence Archives.
The NRA and its executive leadership should be viewed as accessories to mass murder, by literally handing those guns to murderers like Paddock who bought his weapons legally.
The NRA has since the mid-1970s been forcing US lawmakers, through what amounts to bribery, in the form as major cash donations to candidates running for office to support their extremist view of the 2nd amendment.
This is democracy? The majority want gun control, but money bribes by the NRA bullies politicians into denying the majority what they want — gun control, not gun anarchy!
Las Vegas native and late night host Jimmy Kimmel put it this way: Since the 58 dead and 500 wounded were murdered by a rich American gun owner as opposed to a non-American, Trump, McConnell and Paul Ryan – the Republican party, will do nothing “because The NRA has a money belt clipped around their balls.”
Remember 2nd Amendment says “…for the purposes of a well regulated militia the rights to bear arms shall not be infringed.”
I guess current American conservative gun advocates do not speak English very well, because their interpretation of the 2nd amend is predicated on the erroneous view, that the first clause in the amendment is irrelevant, and has no bearing on the second clause — “the right to bear arms shall not be infringed.”
Conservative legal scholars have argued that the for purposes of maintaining a well regulated militia was a meaningless and hollow preamble, and should be disregarded.
Now an example of a preamble that does not relate to the second part of the 2nd amendment would be something like ” Wasn’t that a great ball game last night, the right to bear arms shall not be infringed.”
In my understanding of the English language there is much weight and relevancy to the fact that the founding fathers wanted a well regulated militia, and for that purpose, for the purpose of a well-regulated militia, the right to bear arms shall not be infringed.
Why? Because the USA of 1784 did not have the military might of Britain, France, Spain, Germany and it necessarily depended on well armed citizens to come to the aid of their country if invaded.
The founding fathers certainly did not want guns to go into the wrong hands, that is why it was a well-regulated militia.
Not complicated at all, if you understand the English language.
In other words you can buy arms to participate in a well regulated militia. And you can screen those who purchase arms for purpose other than maintaining a well regulated militia.
After all, there were many people in the newly founded USA of 1784 that the founding fathers did not want to own guns like British spies, possibly slaves who wanted to rebel, Native Americans who wanted their lands back, and others who posed a serious risk to the foundation of the young US.
I doubt Steve Paddock bought the arsenal of weapons , without background check, without restriction, so he could serve in a well regulated militia.
Police in Las Vegas said, Steve Paddock, the shooter who mowed down 58 innocent Americans, lawfully purchased a varied of weapons at gun stores. Thank you NRA for making this mass shooting possible. Photo Courtesy of Slate.com
Yet even the Supreme Court of the United States have become so politicized over the 2nd Amendment that conservative judges voted to refuse to hear gun control challenges after the Sandy Hook mass murder of school children and teachers by a mental disturbed young man who loved to go shooting at a gun club.
Nice guys, eh? 26 people killed at Sandy Hook, many young children and SCOTUS doesn’t give a whistle about their lives snuffed out as such a young age.
Suffer the little children, SCOTUS would rather you die to protect the NRA myth of absolute gun rights for all. Gun Anarchy! Or Gun Control.
Please send an email, a letter – Hell if you are close enough tie a note to a rock and throw it through the NRA’s window, and tell them how you feel about The NRA allowing gun anarchy in the USA.
58 dead in Las Vegas; 49 dead in the Orlando night club shooting;26 Dead in Sandy Hook; 9 dead in a church in South Carolina; 20 Dead in Aurora movie theatre shooting etc etc etc.
Last year was the 50th anniversary of the 18 people killed by Charles Whitman at University of Texas from a clock tower in 1966. Since then 1,000 people or more are killed by guns each year in the US.
Since 1966, approximately 50,000 Americans, and that is a conservative number it’s probably way higher.
Thanks to the NRA, once an organization of hunters and responsible gun owners up to the mid-197os, when it was hijacked by extremists, the Americans have suffered unbearable sorrow at the hands of legally sanctioned gun anarchy.
NRA, this mass murder in Vegas is for you, for all you do to guarantee, people like Steve Paddock, can buy the most vicious weapons unchecked. Way to go guys! Thanks to the NRA gun anarchy reins supreme.
Mass murder thanks to the NRA, and its ass kissing conservative lawmakers have made mass killings, and indeed all gun murders an American Ritual….where everybody loves to Shoot Shoot.
And Trump wants to ban Muslims? And Trump wants to build a wall against Mexicans.
Please!
Walt Kelly’s perceptive comment voiced in the Pogo cartoon strip. Courtesy of Pinterest
In the words of Pogo the cartoon character “I have seen the enemy and the enemy is us.”
Well not “us” but the NRA and Donald Trump and that ilk of fear mongering bigots and distorters of the intent of the 2nd Amendment.
Sometimes I wonder, if some Americans actually speak the English language…but that is another story for another blog.
The ridiculousness of the SCOTUS leaving out the first clause of the 2nd amendment calling for a well regulated militia, is not only poor English but it is maniacally insane and poor legal interpretation.
End Gun Anarchy with thoughtful and necessary Gun Control.
As an environmentalist, I take a strong exception to Trump’s smug declaration that he is going to drain the Washington swamp.
Trump talks of swamps as if they are bad and need removal or draining.
Even in the metaphorical use of the term, it is obvious, Trump knows nothing about swamps and how important they are to the functioning of an environmentally sound planet and local environment. He also knows nothing useful about how governments work and the value of civil servants.
Trump! Drain thyself.
And what Trump calls the “Washington Swamp,” he really is referring to a highly skilled, competent civil service corp of talented people, who have sworn to serve their country and protect the nation’s institution and values.
Serving his country is a concept that the money-crazed, self-promoting, money-grubbing, narcissist, like Trump, has never practiced in his entire life.
If John F. Kennedy’s philosophy was summed by up the phrase, “ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country,” then Donald Trump’s philosophy can be summed by by something like this – ” Ask not what your country can do for you, but what your country can do for me!”
Free rides paid by taxpayers to promote Trump’s businesses in New York, Virginia, Mar-a-Lago are the very real examples of the Trump Doctrine of self-enrichment at the public’s expense.
Swamps, bogs, marshes, fens, slews are so important in generating plant, wildlife, bird, fish, reptilian, amphibious and insect life on our planet. Something Trump can’t or won’t grasp.
What is it with fascists and neo-fascists and draining swamps! You may recall that Italian dictator, Benito Mussolini, also gained some notoriety by draining the Pontine Marshes – in that case, it was lauded because it helped eradicate the malaria health threat which was savaging Italy.
But in North America, we do not have that problem. Wetlands not only generate species diversity, but they provide protection against flooding from storms and hurricanes, because the cattails and other marsh and swamp vegetation slow down the speed of flood waters.
Those torrents of wildly raging, flood waters we see on TV, are quite often made possible, because civil authorities, in their full blown ignorance, drained swamps and cleared marshlands — wetlands if you will, that helped prevent flooding.
The Charles River Study by the US Army Corp of Engineers (1965) concluded as much when they examined the flooding issues in Boston, Massachusetts.
That classic study is referenced on page 9 of the National Oceans and Atmospheric Administration document Wetlands: A Restoration Guide.
I learned about this when I was the research director of the Canadian Environmental Law Association, back in the 1980s, and was fighting along side the inspirational Jim Richards of the Oshawa Second Marsh Defense Association to save Oshawa Second Marsh from being drained and turned into a harbour that was never really needed in the first place.
Swamps, bogs, fens and marshes contain a wealth in diversity of species of flora and fauna. They support and contain plants that could hold the secret for curing one of the many debilitating diseases out there.
Getting rid of the metaphoric Washington swamp is also unhealthy, because by doing so, you lose a lot of talent, skill and know how…look at how incompetent Trump’s Washington swamp replacements have been.
Let’s start with his firings during his campaign in 2016: Corey Lewandowski, Paul Manafort.
Since he assumed the presidency, Trump has hired and fired the follow Swamp-Replacer, Michael Flynn.
He has hired and demoted Kelly Anne Conway; Steve Bannon, the not- so- bright, former editor of Breitbart News, with its open pandering to racist and white, Christian, supremacist sentiments in America.
Recently, word out on the Washington street is, that Donald Trump has the axe ready, and poised to chop his suffering, lamentable spokesperson Sean Spicer.
Trump would be better served if he just shuts up, stops his maniacal late night tweeting, and reins in his insane grandiosity; and starts listening to experts for once in his sorry, bankruptcy ridden-life – six at last count. Will his presidency be his seventh bankruptcy?
Failure to listen to advice, in his businessmen days back in the 1980s and 1990s, cost him his reputation as a smart deal maker, as author Harry Hurt III points with overwhelming evidence in the must read book “The Lost Tycoon”.
Harry Hurt III if you are reading this please write a sequel — “The Lost President.”
I went through a very similar draining and culling exercise, while working as a civil servant at the Ontario Ministry of the Environment (1989-2000) after the election of Ontario’s proto-Donald Trump-like, Mike Harris in 1995.
During that tumultuous, Harris era, talented civil servants were laid off by Mike Harris, in his mad pursuit to pare down Ontario’s expenditures, so he could hand out cash to Ontario voters, and to keep his commitment to a 30 percent tax cut.
Former Ontario Premier, Mike Harris, was the Donald Trump of his day (1995-2002). His policies destroyed the Ontario Conservative Party which has not been returned to office over the course of 15 years and 4 elections. This photo shows Mike Harris, testifying at the Commission of Inquiry into the Killing of Dudley George, headed by Justice Sidney Linden. Photo courtesy of CBC
Imagine the humor I felt, when I received a cheque for $200 in the mail from the Harris government, several months after I was purged out his government when my job as Senior Water Quality Communications Advisor was abolished…I had seniority and that was the only way to expel me from the Ontario’s not so civil service (at least it wasn’t under Harris).
I returned the cheque, and told Harris “no thanks, I would much rather be employed.” NOW Magazine ran my letter at the time.
Many fine civil servants, from the Assistant Deputy Minister level to the grunt level, like me in the Communications Branch of Ministry of the Environment, got axed.
Like Trump, Environmental protection was diminished under Harris, and the cuts to water quality inspectors – cutting staff by a third, resulted in the seven deaths at Walkerton due to residents drinking contaminated drinking water, concluded a Commission of Inquiry into the Walkerton tragedy.
Like Trump, Harris played a racial identity card to galvanize his base. Harris’ racism was aimed at Ontario’s First Nations, and the killing of Dudley George, two days after Harris took power in September, 1995, is an example of this.
I do not accuse Harris of racism lightly, I merely quote the findings of Justice Sidney Linden in his report into the killing of Dudley George.
In his final report on the Ipperwash Inquest into the Killing of Dudley, George Justice Sidney Linden said: “that he didn’t believe Harris, when he claimed he never made a racist statement about the occupiers, during an informal government meeting with provincial police just hours before George’s death.”
A CBC online report on Justice Linden’s findings states: “Harris acknowledged during his testimony that he wanted the occupation brought to a quick end, but denied he said, “I want the fucking Indians out of the park,” as former Ontario attorney general Charles Harnick alleged during his own testimony.”
“After carefully assessing the evidence, it is my view that Michael Harris made the statement,” Linden wrote. “I agree with Premier Harris’s characterization of the statement … as racist.”
“Harris’s sense of urgency, in contrast to the “go-slow” approach of police,”created an atmosphere that narrowed the scope” of potential peaceful resolution to the occupation, Linden said.”
“The provincial government could have appointed a mediator or negotiator at any time, but did not,” Linden wrote. “The premier could have urged patience, rather than speed.”
“Linden also found Harris and Harnick misled the legislature about the so-called “dining-room meeting” involving government officials and police, and by doing so, contributed to the appearance of inappropriate interference and a lack of transparency by the government.”
Like Mike Harris 22 years-ago, Trump has expressed his racism through the anti-Islamic Executive Orders, and anti- Black, dog whistles, nudges and winks, that galvanized support from bigots like Steven Bannon and the KKK and his deplorable base.
Both Harris and Trump played the divisive politics of the divide and conquer, that plays to the worst prejudices of their political base.
In Harris’ case, the province-wide teacher bashing broadcast of the fall of 1996, paid for by taxpayers money, will go down as another low point in Ontario’s recent history, along with his involvement in the dynamics that led to the killing of Dudley George, and the gutting of the Ministry of the Environment that resulted in 7 deaths of Walkerton residents from drinking contaminated water in May, 2000.
Yes, I am proud to this day, at being gutted by Mike Harris, around May 20, 2000 just as the seriousness of the Walkerton situation was exploding in his face.
Ironically, I was the Senior Communications Water Quality Communications Advisor, – but Harris and his minions would not listen to my advice to preserve Ministry integrity and undo his cuts to MOE enforcement staff.
Sound advice from within rejected.
I was hardly the only one advising Harris to reconsider his disastrous course. Many senior, life-long civil servants in the Water Resources Branch, like the manager of the Drinking Water Section and the ADM of the Environmental Science and Standards Division; and the ADM of the Operations Divisions, which included the regional inspectors, did the same.
But Harris chose to listen to ass-kissing, sycophants, that he could really do more with less – those voices Harris rewarded with promotions.
When I was approached on many occasions to put out press statements that Great Lakes Water Quality had improved despite the Harris cuts, I said give me the scientific proof first, otherwise I cannot say Ontario’s water is doing better with less environmental protection.
This was sound advice to the Harris government, because if later, a rash statement like we are doing more to protect the environment with less money being spent, was proved to be a lie – it would destroy the Conservatives Party.
And this nonsense that Harris promoted that the environment was better, cleaner, greater despite the 30 percent cut in inspection staff was, sadly, proved to be a lie, with the tragic, preventable loss of seven lives, as a result of the tainted water in Walkerton, that Justice Dennis O’Connor attributed to the lose of provincial oversight over the operation of that municipal water system.
I am proud to say I resisted Harris and for that – my position as Senior Water Quality Communications advisor was abolished in an MOE reorganization that was taking place as people were dying in Walkerton, in May, 2000.
Like Harris before him, Trump loves playing to his base by bashing of perceived foes – like environmentalists and condemning the media as the enemy of the people.
But Trump plays to a global audience bashing friends and foes alike over free trade and other issues like Canada, NATO, Mexico, Germany, Australia, Japan while praising suspect nations like Putin’s Russia, Turkey under Erdogan and he even said nice words about North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un – this all defies logical explanation, leading many to wonder about Trump’s mental health.
Like Harris before him, Trump lives in the delusion of his own thinking, and then uses bully tactics to get his way. They both deny responsibility for their failures and blame others instead.
Both Harris and Trump have had deleterious impacts on their government’s health
Both Mike Harris as Ontario Premier and Donald Trump have had a deleterious impact on health care.
care policy. Harris in Ontario made deep cuts to health care. In the US, Trump is obsessed with dismantling of Obamacare which according to some polls is more popular with Americans that Trump – 56 percent want Obamacare left intact, while only about 35-44 percent support Trump.
Harris’ policies, resulted in the deaths of eight known people in Ontario — Dudley George, on day two of Harris’ take over as Premier two days after Labour Day in 1995; and the seven people who died from drinking contaminated water in Walkerton in May, 2000.
Trump we know has killed many people in Syria with his “showboat” air raid on a Syrian air strip and the dropping of “the mother of all bombs” in Afghanistan.
Instead of draining swamps, metaphorical or real, I suggest the American people drain Trump, before he drains the nation, and drains the Grand Old Party, the Party of Lincoln – The Republican Party.
Republicans, especially take note your very survival is at stake.
Mike Harris, Ontario’s Pre-Trump Trumpster, resigned in 2002. Some say he resigned in disgrace as a scandal was roiling over the deaths in Walkerton, the killing of Dudley George.
He also left his wife and his alleged adherence to Conservative family values in 2000 in order to pursue a relationship with Sharon Dunn, a former a CBC news reader who was previously married to millionaire John Sikura. Sikura died, in a still, unexplained, fiery car explosion in 1992.
There is no doubt Ontario’s experience and disgust with Harris’s policies and behaviour, left the Ontario Conservative Party, irreparably damaged, and it has never returned to power in the intervening 15 years since he quit and turned the reins over to Ernie Eves in 2002, barely three years after winning a huge majority in the 1999 election. The lack of Conservative Party success at the polls has occurred, despite some woefully weak Liberal Party governments since that party took over control of the Ontario government after the 2003 election.
The Conservatives have failed to form another government either under John Tory and Tim Hudak. Time will tell in 2018 how current Conservative leader Patrick Brown will do against the hugely unpopular Kathleen Wynne Liberal government in the next election.
Simply, Harris did to the Conservative Party in Ontario what Trump is doing to the Republicans in the United States.
The so called “Trump effect” that many political and media analysts predicted – declaring a Trump domino effect across the globe electing fascist, anti-Islamic parties in Austria, the Netherlands and France, countries that all had elections after Trump squeaked into the Presidency in the November US election.
In fact the Trump EFFECT has turned out to be the Trump DEFECT.
Voters have shunned extremism in those three countries, the way Ontario has shunned the post-Mike Harris Conservatives over the course the last four elections over 15 years.
Those three European nations, seeing what havoc and damage Trump is doing to the US opted to vote for centrists parties instead of loonytoon, far right weirdos like him.
A word of advice, based on my experience and Ontario’s experience with pre-Trump Trumpster Mike Harris — Trump drain thyself.
Republicans pay attention. Act now or destroy your own party.
As the typing exercise invented by typing instructor Charles Weller in 1918 puts it —
“Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their party. “
Listen to my homage to Edwin Starr’s classic “War” … I called it “Trump!”
What is he good for! Absolutely Nothing…Say it again.
Edwin Starr was talking about the Vietnam War and how it was destroying the US of the 1960s and the 1970s.
I’d say Trump is doing the same, destroying his country from within, while Putin and the Russians are attempting to destroy the US from outside, as former Obama NSA advisor James Clapper said earlier this week.
I say Trump! What is he good for? Absolutely Nothing! Say it again.
And neither was Mike Harris for Ontario.
Almost 20 years later his party is paying the price for Harris troubled regime.
Speaking on CNN, Paris Dennard, a paid Trump strategist, said the media and people in general have to show Trump more respect. Problem is Trump spews disrespect and hatred to others with ever word he utters. Its hard to respect a man who has built a political career on disrespecting, name-calling and inciting violence against opponents. You reap what you sow.
Yesterday, CNN had a panel discussion, where political commentator Paul Begala trashed Trump, calling him “a big needy baby” among other things.
Paris Dennard, a Trump strategist on the panel, just made me howl with laughter, when he chided Begala, and all anti-Trumpers for showing a lack of respect for President Donald J. Trump.
LOL…show Trump respect? Come on Paris! I know Trumpenstein pays you to be his ass kisser, but really don’t you think Trump started disrespecting others before the others fought back and disrespected him?
Trumper has made his entire career as a belated politician heaping nothing but scorn and disrespect to President Barack Obama starting immediately after Obama won the presidency in 2008.
I don’t believe President Obama ever did anything to deserve the disrespect shown by this ignorant buffoon named Trump.
Ever hear of Trump leading the birther movement? What greater disrespect could Trump throw at President Obama than to declare he was not really an American, and that he might even by a Muslim, even though America was built on religious freedom.
Ever hear the “Lock her up ” chants at his rallies?
Ever hear Trump call Madam Secretary of State Hillary Clinton “Crooked Hillary?”
There is a saying in Christianity, “You reap what you sow.”
Trump has sown fields, after fields of disrespect and incited violence against a protester in Louisville, where now, even one of Trumps own supporters now wants Trump to pay for his fines and penalties and legal costs, because he said he never would have assaulted the protesting woman if not told to do so by Trump.
Paris Dennard, you have the gall to chide Paul Begala, and insist we all must respect this man, who only sows disrespect.
Go talk to your minister Dennard, I think you are missing a very basic and crucial truth about life.
Trump has disrespected hardworking men and women in the US Civil service, calling them the swamp. Only to hire his own gang of Wall Street thugs.
He has made fun of a journalist with a disease and mimicked him for laughs.
He ridiculed the family of an American soldier who died in Iraq.
He has disrespected Americans of the Islamic faith with calls for an Islamic ban on immigrants. He has called people of Mexican origin murderers and rapists – bad hombres.
He has disrespected the American media and started first to bash them because it played well with his base, base, really base supporters.
He has called the media the enemy while blowing loving kisses to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He disrespects U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren and America’s First Nations by calling her “Pocahontas!”. This is being respectful????? A double disrespect in one hate-drenched phrase.
He wrongly accuses President Obama of having wiretapped him, a claim that FBI head James Covey said is wrong and unsupported by the facts.
Frankly, I can see now why Melania looked so unhappy that moment during the inauguration.
So please Mr. Paris Dennard, spare us your lecture about respecting Trumpster and pay attention to what your boss is doing to America.
You can start by removing you lips from Trump’s ass.
If you did so, you would see more clearly what a disrespectful man, and hate filled man your boss truly is, and why it is important for all Americans, and American allies to treat him with the utmost contempt and disrespect he is treating others.
That is all Trumper ever shows people, even his allies like Canada….disrespect, bullying and ignorance.
Look at his language in raging against Canada’s dairy industry and NAFTA.
Christ said treat people they way you want to be treated.
Paris, Trump disrespects people, and what do you expect, they should respect him.
Get real Dennard!
Listen to Aretha Franklin, and maybe, just maybe, you can learn about RESPECT!
